  • 25 grams butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • ½ sweet potato, peeled and chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, torn
  • 2 (400g) cans chopped tomatoes
  • 500ml chicken stock
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 125g dried breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 75g mature cheddar, grated
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 egg
  • 50g cream cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil and butter in a large pot. Add chopped onion and sweet potato; sauté for 5–10 minutes until softened.
  2. Stir in minced garlic and ground cinnamon; cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Add torn basil, chopped tomatoes, and chicken stock.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered for 20 minutes.
  4. While simmering, mix dumpling ingredients in a bowl until stiff; shape into 8 balls.
  5. Blend soup until smooth, then adjust seasoning with sugar, salt, and pepper to taste.
  6. Gently drop dumplings into the simmering soup; cook for about 10 minutes without stirring.
