  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1.5 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 14 oz can crushed tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Stir in minced garlic and ginger until fragrant.
  2. Increase heat to medium-high and add beef cubes, browning on all sides.
  3. Add spices (cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, turmeric, garam masala, cinnamon) and toast for about 2 minutes.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes and one cup of water or broth. Bring to a gentle boil before reducing heat to low.
  5. Cover and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally until beef is tender.
  6. Serve hot over rice or with naan bread.
